So I was recently on a search for some new hats to wear. However if you are anything like me, you don’t really like to advertise other peoples products.
I thought to myself, why not promote your own brand instead of being a walking billboard for other peoples brands?
So here is how I went about making custom hats with my own logo.
CREATING A DESIGN OR LOGO
The first thing you need to have is a custom design or logo to place on your custom hats.
In my case, my logo is simply my signature that was easily edited in photoshop.
If you currently do not have a logo or design and have no idea how to use photoshop, I have a very cheap solution for you.
Whenever I need a custom design made, I always use the services provided by Fiverr.
Fiverr is an online marketplace that has thousands of designers willing to create a logo for you for as little as $5.
This is no joke, I actually use them for logos whenever I create a new website and do not have time to make my own designs.
GET PATCHES MADE
Next up in this process is getting patches made with your logo on it.
I always like to support local businesses but usually local shops require a minimum order quantity when making custom products.
However if I only need a few custom hats, I will usually turn to online services because they do not require high quantity orders.
I am going to give you a link to where I purchased my patches (eBay) but I want to give you a disclaimer.
I have no history with this company and the only two items I have purchased from them are the two patches you see in this video.
I do not know what their customer service or quality control is like. With that said, I am satisfied with the products I received.
PURCHASE YOUR HATS
Once you recieve your patches, you know need to decide what you want to put these patches on.
You can choose pretty much anything you want. From hats to beanies to even clothing.
In my case, I went with these DECKY 6 Panel Trucker Hats.
They come in several colors, are relatively inexpensive, and I like the fit and style of them.
Again, you can choose pretty much anything you want.
START GLUING
There’s several ways you can attached your custom patches to your product.
I would say that sewing them on would be the best option if you know how to or know someone that can sew the patches on to your product.
I, however, do not know how to sew.
So I decided to use some E6000 Permanent Adhesive.
A lot of research was done when deciding what type of adhesive to use for this project. After all the research, I personally concluded that this was the best glue to attach the patches onto my hats.
This glue is permanent, works great with fabrics, and is safe to put into a washer and dryer.
All I had to do was smear the glue onto the patches and stick them on to the hats.
You will want to place pressure on the patches until you start to feel the glue set. This will prevent the patches from moving around and from detaching from the hats.
FINAL THOUGHTS
After several weeks wearing my new hat, I love this process.
It was really simple and cheap to do and the quality is comparable to most hats bought off the shelf.
The best part about this is that the cost of this project was only about $18 per hat. Most hats found in stores cost more than that
If you have your own brand, I highly recommend that you make your own custom hats and promote yourself instead of other people.
Good luck!
